DC LOVE

CULTURE MAKING

CREATIVE-AT-LARGE

WASHINGTON, DC

This whole journey began during a beautiful time of cultural renewal in Washington, DC.

It was just after Obama was swept into office on a wave of enthusiasm and an anything-is-possible attitude. I leapt headlong into the creative culture that was exploding at that same moment, picked up a camera, and began documenting all the energy around me.

I banded together with a crew called ReadysetDC - a small artist collective with the goal of staging events, inspiring DC's artists and makers, and empowering the city's creative interests during a time of urban redevelopment. We hosted pop-up gallery openings, fashion shows that got a little too popular, and bike rides that took over downtown. We experimented with video, blogging, and social media in its nascent stages. We even gave our movement a name - DC Love - and gifted a new logo to the city.

Through it all, I honed my craft of short-form documentary filmmaking. I collaborated with fellow creatives that are now lifelong friends. And we made a mark on the city that I will always consider my home.
